Hessians

During the Revolutionary war the British army was flung all over the world. To help bolster their forces they resorted to hiring German mercenaries known as "Hessians". At the height of the war there were nearly 30,000 men from six German states fighting against the colonist. Over 12,000 of these men were killed by our forces.

Giant Prussian Grenadier

In the seventeen hundreds there were several independent states in Germany who were only too happy to rent regiments to Great Britain. These troops were chosen for their size and ferocity. They were all well over six feet tall and were an awe inspiring sight when they marched into battle. All of the officers and most of the troops of Germany were from Hesse-Cassel, therefore they became known as "Hessians".
