Marching Troop with Shields
Knighthood began at age seven when
a vassal sent his son to the lord's house to become a page. At the
age of fourteen the page became a squire, a personal attendant to a
knight. From that knight he learned the skills of knighthood, such
as riding, weapons handling and hunting.

Swiss Guard, Vatican
The Swiss Guard dates back to the
medieval era and in the 1500's they were hired by Pope Julius II to
protect the Vatican. In 1527 the Swiss Guard held off the forces of
Charles V long enough for Pope Clement to escape. They lost 147 of
189 troops. For their valor, they remain to this day as the official
protectors of the Vatican.
